Benaguasil is a municipality of the Valencian Community, concretely, it belongs to the Camp de Turia region which is located only at a distance of 20 km from Valencia. The municipality is located on the left bank of the Turia River, a river that acts as a natural border with the municipalities of Vilamarxant and Riba-Roja de Turia. Benaguasil occupies 25.63 km2. Its altitude above sea level is 132 meters (point 0 m of the Mediterranean in Castellón).
Due to its location, the Camp de Turia region communicates the coastal region with the Iberian-Levantine mountains and with the dry region of the Meseta. The proximity of the sea, towards which it is open, explains a Mediterranean-type climate. This subregion is characterized by an arid, warm Mediterranean climate, with dry summers with slight maritime influence, and high rainfall irregularity.
Benaguasil has a current population of 11.256 people. Its city council is formed by the Mayor and 17 city councilors, but the in the government there are the Mayor, three town councilwoman, and five town councilmen. Here work 90 people approximately in different areas like citizen service, economy, administration, development agency, maintenance of the town, education, sports, policemen…
Additionally, advances in the communication sector allowed Benaguacil to specialize in the export of onions to the United Kingdom and Germany, creating many packaging companies with their own brand. The cultivation of the onion would be the main pillar in the economy until the middle of the 20th century. Irrigation has been extended between 1959 and 1991, half of which is dedicated to citrus fruits and the rest to vegetables.
The management of agricultural production is carried out through the San Vicente Ferrer Agricultural Cooperative. The most prominent industry is clothing, although there are also construction materials and toys. It is in the interest of the government of Benaguasil to participate in European Projects as they are a good instrument with which to get to know how to collaborate with the other Member States, enrich culturally the municipality and its people, and work on community matters from a local level.
