SETOFF project to hold final event “Setoff International Conference: Innovation in Security in Europe” to discuss cybersecurity and natural risk

  • It will be a hybrid event to promote synergies between agents and experts in natural disaster prevention sector.
  • The forum, organised by our partner Benaguasil Town Council and Finnova Foundation, will consist of different information and debate panels at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). 

October 31, 2024– The SETOFF project, in collaboration with its partner Benaguasil Town Council and Finnova Foundation, will present the “Final Setoff International Conference: Driving Security Innovation in Europe”, a hybrid event designed to promote synergies between experts and stakeholders in natural disaster prevention. This culminating event, part of the EU-funded SETOFF project, will take place on Wednesday, November 6 from 14:45 to 18:00 (CET) at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in Brussels.

As the project’s concluding conference, this forum will feature various informational and debate panels organized by Benaguasil Town Council and Finnova Foundation. It will bring together leading experts and institutional representatives to discuss advancements in cybersecurity, risk management, and the essential role of European cooperation in enhancing public security across the EU. 

The event will include three thematic panels which several experts on the sector will be discussed and exchange a wide range of points of views to address the most crucial aspects cybersecurity and risk management. First of all, an Institutional Panel on Cybersecurity will be held to discuss about the role of European institutions in strengthening cybersecurity. We will have Andries Gryffroy, Vice-President of the Commission for the Environment, Climate Change, and Energy of the European Committee of the Regions, along with EESC experts, Miriam Alba Reina from the Red Cross, Delia Bonsignore from DG REGIO in the European Comission, who will bring their experience in risk management and institutional collaboration, Jose Luis Diego, EU Projects Manager from Valencia Local Police, and Erwan Marteil, Head of Unit for Prevention and Preparedness Capacity Building (ECHO B3).

Immediately following this, the panel “SETOFF Project Presentation: Contributions to Security Innovation” willoffer insights into SETOFF’s upcoming milestones and its impact on European security explaining the outcomes. We will have contributions from the SETOFF project to training and security presented by Juan Viesca, Director of European Funds at Finnova, and Eduardo Mercado, CTO of Finnova. Otherwise, Rubén Araque, Security Councilor for the Benaguasil City Council, will share his knowledge from local Contributions to Training and Security, whichwill share how this tool has strengthened security in his municipality. Additionally, the forum will include a presentation on funding and innovation opportunities for startups and environmental security projects led by Juan Manuel Revuelta, CEO of our Belgian partner Finnova Foundation, and a final conference which will bring insights and conclusions about the whole event. 

The SETOFF International Conference seeks to be an essential forum for advancing discussions on security innovation across Europe. By facilitating a collaborative space where experts, policymakers, and local authorities can share insights and strategies, the event will underscore the importance of European cooperation in addressing both digital and natural security threats.
