EIEMBRACING INNOVATION AND RESILIENCE: PAVING THE FUTURE OF RISK MANAGEMENT IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES.

The final conference titled “Future Directions for Developing Training and Innovation in Local Community Risk Management” will take place on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the Military Academy in Skopje. The event will be conducted both onsite and online, allowing for broad participation and accessibility. Organized under the theme “Smart Education and Training Program for Central and Local Government Officials: Embracing Vulnerability as Our Greatest Strength and Introducing Innovative Risk Management Tools – SETOFF,” the conference aims to bring together experts, government officials, and stakeholders to enhance community resilience through innovation and practical solutions.

Conference Objectives:

This conference aims to achieve the following:

  • Strengthen community resilience by introducing innovative tools and strategies for risk management and disaster preparedness.
  • Discuss advancements in crisis management training, focusing on building capacity, improving skills, and sharing knowledge for effective disaster responses.
  • Explore best practices for post-disaster recovery, highlighting community empowerment and infrastructure restoration in affected areas.
  • Examine proactive risk reduction measures, with a focus on strengthening infrastructure and fostering resilience in vulnerable communities.
  • Promote the integration of new methodologies in disaster education, ensuring continuous improvement in training programs and the application of modern technologies.

SETOFF Project Overview:

The SETOFF project has been instrumental in advancing preparedness and occupational safety for civil protection personnel and security professionals. The project has developed a comprehensive e-training curriculum, which incorporates the latest scientific knowledge and real-life simulations, and addresses gaps identified through in-depth needs analyses.

  • Provide top-quality training for civil protection and security professionals to enhance their readiness and efficiency.
  • Validate and strengthen skills developed through real-world scenarios.
  • Address knowledge gaps through collaborative training and simulations across four countries: Greece, Republic of North Macedonia, Belgium, and Spain.
  • Create an accessible e-platform that fosters a community of learners and offers continuous education in risk management.
  • Share resources among project participants to overcome challenges related to availability, promoting both on-site and remote learning opportunities.

Partners:

SETOFF involves a wide-ranging collaboration between eight key partners from four countries. These partners include universities, specialized civil protection training organizations, municipalities, and research organizations. The project also includes twelve associated partners that recognize the potential for structured knowledge sharing and active engagement in improving disaster preparedness strategies.

Conference Format:

The final conference will feature both theoretical and practical components:

  • Keynote speeches and panel discussions led by experts in disaster management will offer insights into current practices and future developments.
  • Presentations of Intellectual Outputs by collaborating partners, showcasing the results of the SETOFF project, including online demonstrations of simulation scenarios and an introduction to the innovative e-platform.
  • Case study presentations and discussions on best practices will encourage the exchange of ideas and collaborative approaches to disaster management.
