1st Workshop of SETOFF Project, Athens, Greece

The 1st workshop of the SETOFF Project took place on May 18th, at the central
offices of the Hellenic Institute for Occupational Health and Safety (ELINYAE), in
Athens.

Hundred thirty (130) participants attended the event; 60 of them were present
while 70 participated virtually through zoom. Among the participants, one from
abroad, specifically from EUROCORE, one of the project’s partners.

The objective of the event was to generate awareness of the participants about:

  • the SETOFF Project results,
  • the Simulation training for Disaster, Risk and Resilience (training modules, learning theories and practices, educational scenarios, lesson plans, and use case scenarios),
  • SETOFF e-training curriculum,
  • Skills Retention Service.

The Chair of the Board of Directors of ELINYAE, Ms Rena Bardani welcomed
everyone and focused on the importance of new technologies in order to offer
training for civil protection personnel.
The Professor of the International Hellenic University (IHU), Michalis Chalaris,
Coordinator of the SETOFF Project, pointed out the importance of such a program
and presented a video with the partners. His presentation was also focused on
planning and management of natural and man-made crises and disasters.

The 2nd part of the workshop included the presentation of the e-platform/
vocational education program by ELINYAE staff involved in the SETOFF Project;

Dr Dimitra Pinotsi presented the results of the Civil protection training needs’
survey, Dr Antonis Targoutzidis and Dr Paraskevi Georgiadou, focused on the
importance of training using the specific e-platform and presented the main topics
which will be covered by the curriculum:

  • Introduction to risk analysis and management
  • Risk perception and Communication
  • Emergency workers’ health and safety
  • First aid
  • Technological accidents
  • Natural disasters (e.g. fires, floods, earthquakes)
  • Security
  • Epidemic

During the 3rd and last part of the workshop, the Representatives of Local
Government, Safety Technicians, Fire Service and Volunteers had the chance
to present their point of view, as well as their needs regarding civil protection
training. Worth to mention that short speeches were made by:

P. Anastopoulos, Representative of the Institute of management of man-made
and natural disasters (IDAFK).

All the participants congratulated ELINYAE, IHU and the other partners for their
involvement in the SETOFF Project and they pointed out the importance of the
successful completion of the program in order to upgrade civil protection training
in Greece.
